Russian Riverkeeper has been protecting the waters of the Russian River, which stretches through the Sonoma and Mendicino counties of Northern California, for 15 years. The organization coordinates a network of scientists and environmentalists who monitor and maintain the health of the river through political advocacy, water testing, and regular patrols. The activities are a much-needed protection from a range of threats to the river’s ecosystem, including pollution and excessive gravel mining.
Russian Riverkeeper approached Keller & Faber to build a website that would promote its activities, help expand it membership, and help the organization send updates to existing members. More generally, the organization needed a website that would make clear the myriad threats to the river, a popular local recreational spot, and how residents could help change the situation. An advocacy website like this one needs to make its case on multiple levels at once: to new visitors, a presentation of the river’s status and the organization’s mission; and to existing members, a set of organizational tools that can help volunteers coordinate their activities.
